Karen Casey (born April 24, 1947) is a Canadian politician. She currently represents the electoral district of Colchester North in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. She is a member of the Liberal caucus.
Casey (née Thompson) served as Minister of Health in the Executive Council of Nova Scotia. She grew up in Bass River.
She graduated from Nova Scotia Teachers College and also has a B.A. from Mount Saint Vincent University, a B.Ed. from Mount Saint Vincent University and a M. Ed. (Administration) from Saint Mary's University.
Casey is a former Assistant Superintendent of the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board and is a former Principal of North River Elementary School. She is also the former chair of the Colchester-East Hants Health Authority.
On June 24, 2009, Casey was named the Progressive Conservative Party's interim leader, replacing Rodney MacDonald after he resigned following the party's defeat in the 2009 provincial election.[1] She served as interim leader until announcing her resignation on August 16, 2010.[2]
On January 10, 2011, Casey crossed the floor to join the Liberal caucus.[3]
